Researchers - I use the term loosely - are claiming that an anti-malarial agent in Africans increase their susceptibility to AIDS. Along those same lines, just a few days ago, "researchers" claimed that global warming was causing more kidney stones.(see a bit down the blog).
I suspect that the increased incidence of AIDS in Africa is more a result of their "sex with anything that moves" attitude than anything to do with malaria.
The term "researcher" used to provide a kind of mantle of respectability and knowledge to the person it was applied to.
Not so any more. Nowadays it usually means "quack in a white lab coat".
