Rogue States And WMD's

Much screaming and fear-mongering is being heard and observed everywhere today about North Korea's three missile launches and their second Nuke detonation, which - not surprisingly - caught our desk-bound and computer/satellite/TV camera-addicted intelligence community completely by surprise.

Much has being said about how this Rogue State, led by a madman, has ignored numerous United Nations Resolutions, defied the entire world - at least our half of it - with its nuclear program, and is now threatening just everybody, including Guam, with it's growing nuclear capability. Guam? Thats what has FOX and CNN so alarmed about today.

The same thing can be said of Iran, presently flexing it's military muscle as their part in today's chapter of the ongoing program.

But you know what? The same things can be said of Israel and Taiwan. The only obvious difference is that we think Israel and Taiwan are on our side, which automatically makes them "good" guys and eligible for billions of dollars in aid and all manner of military equipment, while North Korea, Syria and Iran are on the "other" side, automatically making them the "bad" guys, making the eligible for name-calling and as boogey men to scare our children with.

The other side, whom we refer to as the "bad" guys, has consistently - and accurately - pointed out that Israel, a Rogue State in their view, has an estimated 150 nuclear weapons, is a collection of militant war-mongers, has ignored numerous U.N. resolutions to cease and desist their overt aggression against their neighbors(true), and has steadfastly refused to sign the Anti-nuclear Proliferation Treaty(also true).

So. Both sides have their "Rogue" States. The problem is that neither side will admit to this. The Chinese, the Russians, the rest of those "other side" countries all see places like North Korea, Syria and Iran as countries in the frontline of the war protecting their cultures, heritages, religions, etc.

We - the United States and England - see Israel(but not Taiwan, for some reason, probably because of their slanty eyes) in exactly the same light... as the front line defender of our cultures, heritages, religions, etc. Every day that passes sees these attitudes on both sides becoming more set in stone, more intractable, and less solvable without a serious "them or us" war.

Their side has more Rogue States than our side. Is that a possible way to keep score? The side with the most Rogue States wins? Or loses?

Nope... The history of humanity shows that we have always eventually determined the winner with an all-out war, millions of deaths, and almost inconceivable destruction.

This time the number of dead will be even larger, the destruction far greater, with human misery reaching unimaginable and inconceivable levels, because by the time it all starts for real, we'll all have lots of nukes to throw around.

And damned if we won't.

You live in a big city? Shame on you... you are making yourself an early casualty. But, considering the alternative of life after this civilization-destroying event, maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Me? I plan to be long gone before it all starts... hopefully. But lately, that plan is starting to look pretty lame.
