Priorities

PARADE Magazine recently published it's annual "What people earn" report.

It's pretty telling what we Americans consider the most important things in our lives by the amount people earn, which is generally accepted as a measurement of a person's worth.

Some of the really big earners

nine figure income:

$125,000,000 - Tyler Perry, Actor
$110,000,000 - Tiger Woods, Golfer

eight figure income:

$82,000,000 - Jay-Z, Rapper
$80,000,000 - Beyonce, Singer
$38,000,000 - Rush Limbaugh, talk show host
$34,000,000 - Alex Rodriguez, Baseball Player
$31,000,000 - Will Ferrell, Actor
$27,000,000 - Jennifer Aniston, Actress
$25,000,000 - John Grisham, Author

Some of the big earners

seven figure income:

$8,000,000 - Kelly Ripa, TV host
$7,000,000 - Danica Patrick, Racecar Driver
$5,500,000 - Taylor Swift, Singer
$4,600,000 - Tina Fey, Actress
$4,500,000 - Carolyn Murphy, Super Model
$3,500,000 - Patrick Dempsey, Actor

Above average earners

$400,000 - Joshua Gropper, Trial Attorney
$177,400 - Rod Blagojevich, Governor
$155,000 - Ron Gettelfinger, UAW president

$125,000 --Sarah Palin, Governor
$111,100 - William Bailey, Federal Investigator
$102,800- -Linda Tilman, school principal

Some in the "getting by OK" category

Upper half of a five figure income:

$72,000 - Bret Collins, Golf Course Keeper
$68,500 - Roseanne Gentry, Registered Nurse
$66,000 - Ann Sim, Math Teacher
$59,000 - Larry Stokes, Tugboat Captain
$58,000 - Michael Olson, Probation Officer
$55,000 - Glenn Perez, Printer
$54,000 - Aaron Vrooman, Truck Driver
$53,000 - Deborah Blakeney, Letter Carrier

Some in the " Hanging on" to the "barely making it" category:

Lower half of a five figure income:

$48,000 - Laurie Metoyer, MRI Technician
$39,000 - John Benes, Plumber
$35,500 - Ronald Curell, Carpenter
$34,600 - Ricky McAfee, Paint blender
$31,400 - Debbie Peters, surgical Coordinator
$26,900 - Tabitha Roberts, Bookkeeper
$20,200 - Julie Sorensen, Certified Nurse's Aide

Can't help but notice... the further down the list you go, the more workers you find, the very people we all depend on to get things done.

The golfer makes $110,000,000 a year. The guy who keeps the golf course playable, the guy that makes it possible for the golfer to do anything, makes $72,000. That sort of sucks.

And $82,000,000 for a rapper.... apparently we value entertainment more than anything else on this earth.

A few million people value rappers at $8 per year. Not so hard to figure out in a country of 300 million people. I am guessing a significant part of Danica Patricks income is from endorsements, not racing.

Roci....

Endosements have the largest effect on those huge incomes.

Look what multi- million-dollar endorsement payouts did to the ordinary tennis shoe. A good quality pair of decent tennis shoes cost about $25. Take that pair, add a Nike swipe, get some hafri to endorse them... bango... $150.00

Every time Danica Patrick gets her photo on a box of corn flakes, I have to pay more for that product.

When Tiger Woods endorses a golf ball, they go up 1.00 each.

That may help you to understand how these mega-incomes forces us all to pay more money for a product than its really worth.

There's just no such dynamic as " a few million [people} paying $8 per year".
