Exxon Mobil just rang in with a 40.6 billion dollar profit for last year... $40,600,000,000.00.
My My. Forty point six billion dollars.
Who owns Exxon Mobil? Who is pocketing that mountain of cash?
I can hardly wait for the rest of these oil conglomerates to fess up about their profits last year.
Did you know we American tax payers are giving these oil companies billions in subsidies each and evey year?
Did you know Congress tried to eliminate all those subsidies last year? After previous reports of record profits by the same old gang of thieves?
And did you know that Bush(along with a few of his Republician buddies) promised to veto the bill? Effectively killing it?
Real question is... do you give a damn?

I don't care.
Who owns the oil companies? If you have a 401K, you do. as do all those people with retirement accounts and stock invested pensions.
Why would anyone be upset that when the price of crude oil is at its highest, ever, that the companies that produce it are getting record profits?
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's property.
Profiteering? Why else would they even bother coming to work in the morning? I suppose you don't demand a paycheck for your labor?
sigh...
You actually believe that purchasing a few shares of some prefered stock makes you an owner of an oil company?
The people(and their legal heirs) whose names are on the incorporation papers are the owners, not you, not me. They are the ones with the common stock that identifies real ownership. They are the ones who get the lions share of all profits. They are the ones keeping supply suppressed to keep prices artifically high.
If you have shares in big oil, you have prefered stock. Someday you should try to understand the critical difference between common and prefered stocks. Then perhaps you will get this "ownership" concept straight.
Thou shalt not covet they neighbor's property?
And to whom do you think a nation's natural resources belong to? Privatly owned corporations?
Our nations's resources are certainly NOT my neighbors property to covet.
Do you own land? Do you own the mineral rights of that land? No, you don't. Somebody else does. Some big corporation. You find gold on your land, it's not yours... you don't own the mineral rights.
Isn't that great? That's just an example of how big business has rigged everythig in their favor.
And you support them.
