George W. Bush has just called his presidency "a joyous experience" and said he wasn't worried about how history would judge him...He better not be worried... history s going to grind him up into little pieces and spit him out.
I have no doubt that he considers his presidency as "a joyous experience".
For him, that is.
He did whatever he wanted. He started wars. He spit in the face of nations around the globe. He ignored Congress and the Supreme Court. He repeatedly violated the Constitution of the United States, something that many Americans have called treason, and rightly so. He has ignored the vast majority of Americans who despise him and his long list of failed policies. He has made secret agreements with leaders of other nations, agreements that are damaging to America's survival, and almost singlehandedly re-ignited the cold war.
Under his watch, the cost of gas has soared over 300%. Countless numbers of illegals have swarmed across our open borders. Millions of quality American jobs were lost to overseas interests. Thousands of American businesses packed up and vanished offshore. Under his watch, America's standing and stature around the world has been severely compromised, if not destroyed. He has shown our military to be a powerful but impotent paper dragon, incapable of eliminating the threat of a few ragtag terrorists in places hardly out of the 12th century.
And during all of this, those individuals identified as the religious right in America have supported this president, giving him that set-in-concrete 30% base which has enabled him - and his onerous conduct - from day one.
He will leave his presidency - along with his pals and buddies - a richer man, much richer. So no doubt he considers it a "joyous experience".
But for the rest of us - and for America - the presidency of George Walker Bush has been a disaster.
