"We need a real Chocolate City," an apparent reference to the prospect of the United States under Obama, who would be the first U.S. black president if elected in November. The term "Chocolate City" has been used affectionately by African-Americans to refer to Washington and other predominantly black cities. Washington - in 2000 - was 27.83% white and 59.46% black. That was eight years ago, so it looks as if Spike will get his wish.
We had the "Emerald City" with Dorothy and Toto, "Camelot" with the Kennedys, and now possibly the "Chocolate City" with Barak and Michelle.
The really unspoken question on many minds is... will Obama - as president - serve his country or his race first? That may be considered as a "Racist" remark, but there is no doubt that blacks across America - as Obama heads for the finish line - are showing more and more of that "our turn now" attitude.
Consider the statement made by Donna Brazille, democratic strategist, Obama supporter and Democratic convention super delegate. She came right out on a talk show with Maureen Dowd and said if Obama does not get the nomination “there will be blood.”
Donna Brazille is - of course - a black woman.
"There will be blood". She may be 100% correct.
The times they are getting most interesting.
