Don't Talk... Just Listen

Sit down and shut up:

On Tuesday, the office of First Lady Michelle Obama
sponsored several conference calls
featuring administration officials discussing Mrs. Obama's “Let’s Move!” campaign to combat childhood obesity but “with listen-only lines for the media,” according to The Washington Daybook. On Wednesday, Mrs. Obama personally conducted a conference call for “online media” that was “by invitation only,” according to the Daybook.

Who the hell died and put her in charge? Of anything?

Last time I looked, she hadn't been elected or legally appointed to anything by anybody. Shes not a Senator or Representative, she's not a Cabinet member, she's not the head of any Department. She's not even one of the horde of faceless bureaucrats that make our lives miserable.

She's the president's wife. As such, she can glory over the fact that for four years she doesn't have to cook or clean. What she should be doing with all her extra free time is focusing on raising her kids to be something other than spoiled and arrogant brats.(like other presidents kids were/are)

What she should not be doing is paying all this attention to OUR kids, changing school lunch menus, ordering restaurants to serve certain kinds of foods and in specific quantities. She should not be going around the nation making questionable, often seditious speeches, something she is noted for doing during her earlier years.

Yes, yes... all the lefty libs and feminists will go a-frothing at the idea that she should be what she agreed to be... a wife and mother. She will find it difficult to be a more admired and better remembered first lady than Jackie Kennedy

Now don't get me wrong here, women can be and do whatever they aspire to and achieve. But if they wish to become a national figure of power and influence, maybe they should do it using their own skills and talents, not on the backs of their husbands.

Love her or hate her, Sarah Palin did it by her own efforts. She didn't ride in on anybody's coattails. She ran for and was elected as a council member of the Wasilla, Alaska City Council. She ran for and became Mayor. She ran for Alaska's Lt. Governor in 2002 and lost. She was appointed Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in 2003. She was the first woman elected Governor of Alaska. She was a vice-presidential candidate.

Where is the list of Michelle Obama's qualifications for her entry into the public arena?

Sarah Palin has earned her spot as an influential public figure. Michelle Obama is using the power and prestige of the White House to advance her agenda without the "trial by fire" of public scrutiny and approval.

What educational qualifications does Michelle Obama possess that gives her the credability to become an authority on any of these things? Is she a nutritionist? A Medical Docter? A physical therapist?

Or is she just another meddling busybody who thinks she knows better than any of us on how to feed ourselves and our children?

She is pushing rules and regulations that carry the force of law across the entire nation.

By what legal authority is she doing this?

Just what is your real issue with Michelle Obama? Your posts are intelligently written, yet you seem to assign powers to Michelle she does not have. She cannot "order" anything. All she can do is use her public position to put issues out into the public domain. Yes, she wields a lot of influence. Notice I said influence, not power. Saying she does is only giving her more influence over you than she should have. I pay no attention to her as a rule.

Sarah on the other hand is a self absorbed political opportunist who did not even have enough on the ball or the willingness to take the time to do her research when presented a questionaire from an arguably friendly and potential supporter who had sent questionaires to all the candidates for governor. This was a take home questionaire, not a "gotcha moment". When asked to answer in writing the answer to the question,

“Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?”

Her answer - “Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.”

And please do not defend her on this one. She blew it big time.

I found this out about her as I was checking into her background before I had even made up my mind about her. I figured someone who could not answer this 9th grade history question or would not take the time to get it right - was not up to the task of being a heartbeat away from the presidency. Her inclusion as VP canddidate was just cheap politics at its worse.

Her actions since then have done nothing but reinforce my opinion that she is only out for Sarah. She could not care less about anything or anyone else. I won't call her stupid, but I will say she is grossly unqualified to hold any elected office.

But then we come to qualifications. You do know Michelle was a successful lawyer. Her background and education qualifies her to speak out on a variety of subjects. Chidren's health, because she is a smart and concerned mother.

And what can Sarah do? See Russia from her back porch and shoot guns.

If I were to offer up a role model for a child, I would pick Michelle over Sarah in a heart beat.
