The public outcome of Mr. Gates’s visit appeared polite but inconclusive. Yet Iran’s progress with nuclear weapons and air defenses means Israel’s military option is declining over time. It will have to make a decision soon, and it will be no surprise if Israel strikes by year’s end. Israel’s choice could determine whether Iran obtains nuclear weapons in the foreseeable future.So. The real moment-of-truth, the real crunch time for the continued existence of today's version of the biblical Israel is apparently close at hand.
It does not matter what side of this winner-take-all fight you're on: Pro-Jew, anti-Jew, pro-Arab, anti-Arab... it doesn't matter. You don't count, your opinion doesn't carry any weight. You are ignored. Your concerns, your country - and your future - don't mean a thing to either side. To one side, you are an ignorant, uneducated servant - barely above a slave - to the other, you are an infidel, an unbeliever that needs to be converted... or removed from the face of the earth.
The Jews and the Arabs have been fixing to settle this particular chapter of their millennia-old fight, and they are about to come to blows again. Problem is, they both intend to use the latest stuff... nuclear stuff. And that does make it our problem, whether they like it or not.
The Arabs claim the Jews stole their land, and there is validity to that. The Arabs/Muslims controlled the area for the last 1,000 years. The League of Nations created the State of Palestine after WW1. The Brits governed Palestine under the Palestinian Mandate until 1948, when the United Nations, via Resolution 181, created two new states, Israel and Palestine, out of the one state already there, Palestine.
Ahh, but you say, the Israelites were there 4,000 years ago. So what? They were a group of people unsatisfied with their lot in Egypt, bailed and then spent some time in the desert raising an army. They then invaded this endlessly contested area, slaughtering every man, women and child in their path and establishing their little community, which - or course - was later overrun and destroyed by the earlier inhabitants. And so it has been since the dawn of recorded history. Both sides really know how to hold a grudge.
This conflict has existed on some level since then, repeatedly flaring up when on side or the other gained some sort of advantage.
Of course, the Jews loved the U.N. maneuver, and -
of course - the Arabs hated it. The Jews, with their claimed "divine right" to the land, bought the needed votes in the U.N., and had the modern-day State of Israel created out of thin air. But the Arabs said no way, and so the Middle East war re-ignited.
It will not end until one side of the other is obliterated, and that just won't happen. What will happen is that the entire area will be rendered incredibly radioactive for the next 10,000 years. That will end the issue of ownership.
Now the Arabs are about to get the ability - via several methods - to blow Israel into dust, blueish-glowing dust, so the Jews feel they must strike first.
Problem with that is only the United States and Britain - the two nations that pushed through the creation of today's Israel - are on Israel's side. The rest of the world agrees with the Arabs and believe the Jews have militarily occupied a place not theirs (religious claims aside) and caused all these endless problems - long enough.
If Israel attacks Iran, the consequences are unpredictable, but most assuredly bad.
Keep in mind that if Israel eliminates Iran's nuclear capability, the Arabs will eventually be able to buy nukes from other nations that don't like us, our Jewish controlled government or our empire-building tendencies. As the influence of the United States continues to wither under this Congress and the Obama administration, the chances of that happening increases dramatically.
If Iran's nuclear capability is eliminated, the Arabs, using our oil money to buy nukes, will still be able to eventually convert Israel into blueish-glowing dust.
America, Israel's only insurance policy for it's continued existence, is being financially, militarily and diplomatically weakened and drained to the point that one fine day, no one will any longer fear us. On that day, Israel's future vanishes.
If I was a Jew living in today's Israel, I'd be making plans to move back to New York or Florida.
