Another One, The Optimist This Time

Yet another American president tilts at windmills:
JERUSALEM (AP) - President Bush sought new footing Wednesday to pull Israel and the Palestinians toward serious negotiations that would crown his final year as president, as revived peace talks stumbled over land squabbles and fear of violence.

"We see a new opportunity for peace here in the holy land and for freedom across the region," an optimistic Bush said upon landing in Tel Aviv.
Seems every one of our presidents has wanted to bring peace to the Middle East. They all wanted that moniker as the man who brought peace to the world, to earn that "crown" for his final year. Ahh, what glory!

Naturally, when the standing president makes his big peace push, both sides smile and agree, promising all manner of effort to achieve said goal, those promises being nothing but a batch of lies.

If there is one lesson that should have been learned during the last half-century is that there will be no peace - ever - between the Jews and the Arabs. Peace in the region will only occur when one side has obliterated the other completely, totally, never to rise again.

And, of course, that will never happen.

So... the idea that an outgoing American president will ever make a difference is only a pipe dream, but damn... it makes such good press!
