When I was in the Navy, we used so sit around and BS about how great it would be to have females onboard our ship and who most likely would be able to score, and the best place on the ship for a bit of privacy and romancing.
Today's Navy... A whole different reality.
Now there's women onboard navy vessels, but so what?
That hot little WAVE you kept eyeballing turns out to be a lesbian.
Not only that, but they make a BIG production over your out-of-the-closet shipmate's first public lesbian kiss. That's an intentional slap in the face, an in-your-face "up yours" to all us normals.
I'm still pretty old school... I don't give a damn if some boys or girls have their wires crossed, but the sparkfest should remain very private.
